Tompkins Builders Awarded OC/ORA Office Building in White Oak, MD

Washington, D.C., December 3, 2007
Tompkins Builders has been selected to construct the new OC/ORA office building for the Food and Drug Administration. The site, one mile north of the Capital Beltway on New Hampshire Avenue, is the former location of the US Navy facility at the Federal Research Center-Naval Ordnance Laboratory.

Under the auspice of a larger effort to consolidate the FDA’s myriad of programs into a single site, the OC/ORA office building approaches 500,000 square feet, and is primarily made up of office space with some special areas for conferences and food service. Tompkins Builders previously constructed four award winning projects for the FDA, including the FDA Engineering and Physics Laboratory, which was completed in May 2007 on the new campus.

Team members on the project included the client, the Food and Drug Administration; the architect, KlingStubbins in association with RTKL; the construction manager, Heery-Tishman; and the owner, General Services Administration (GSA).

Ed Small, President of Tompkins Builders, said, “We are extremely proud of our longstanding relationship with the FDA, and especially of our role on the new campus. Once completed, this campus and its many facilities will immeasurably contribute to scientific research, as well as to the immediate local community. We look forward to beginning our work on the new office building and supporting the FDA and GSA in our capacity as a builder.”
