Tompkins/Hardie Joint Venture Awarded
Oak Hill Youth Center for DC Government

Tompkins Builders and its joint venture partner, Hardie
Industries, along with DMJM Design, has been selected to serve as
the design/builder for the new state-of-the-art secured juvenile
rehabilitation facility located at the Oak Hill Youth Center in
Laurel,
MD.
The $40 million design-build project includes construction of
five new buildings with a total of 88,000 gross square feet of floor
area and 150 parking spaces. Also included in the design are a
freestanding gymnasium, a kitchen, dining areas, a 120 seat theater,
student common areas, and academic and vocational training
departments. The new center will house 60 students and will feature
an interior pedestrian landscape courtyard with basketball courts, a
tennis court, baseball diamond, and football field. “As the largest
general contractor domiciled in Washington DC, we are extremely
proud to have been selected to take this project to completion for
the District of Columbia and the Department of Youth Rehabilitation
Services (DYRS). The new facility will help foster cultural change
and
support the overall mission of DYRS to reform the youth
rehabilitation services,” said Ed Small, president of Tompkins
