Tompkins Awarded Contract to Build Viewing Stands for 2005 U.S. Presidential Inauguration Ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Tompkins Builders, Inc., was selected as general contractor to construct the viewing stands for the 2005 Presidential Inauguration ceremony, which will take place on January 20th on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. The project owner and architect is the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Washington, D.C. Tompkins is a subsidiary of Turner Construction Company, the nation’s leading general builder.

The $1.36 million project is slated to begin in October 2004. Viewing stands will accommodate all ceremony guests, which include the President, Congressional attendees, diplomats, V.I.P guests and the band and choir.

This is the fourth consecutive time that Tompkins has been selected to construct the stands for the inauguration ceremony. Tompkins will now have to comply with all post-9/11 security measures during this assignment. The firm’s scope of work also includes demolition of the stands, which will begin 72 hours after the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony.
